Extremely comprehensive, with a large number of photographs that provide a detailed graphical complement to the text. While the specific order may not follow my classes perfectly, the sections are modular enough that it should not be a problem. It would be fantastically easy to assign reading before an experiment. The book is organized by different techniques and works wonderfully that way. There are quick links on the text. The only area I felt was biased was in the area of chromatography. One concern about an online laboratory manual file is use in a laboratory setting. Featuring new experiments, a new essay, and new coverage of nanotechnology, this organic chemistry laboratory textbook offers a comprehensive treatment of laboratory techniques including small-scale and some microscale methods that use standard-scale (macroscale) glassware and equipment. The summaries at the end of each topic would be a wonderful quick reference and overview for a student. Laboratory Techniques in Organic Chemistry is the most comprehensive and detailed presentation of the lab techniques organic chemistry students need to know. In this resource you will find theory and procedures on the main organic lab techniques (chromatography, crystallization, extraction, distillation) as well as general concepts on how to set up and heat apparatuses. The language was such that undergraduates, who may not know all the proper terms and lab jargon, would be able to easily follow. Even the images used will probably still be relevant 10 to 20 years from now. Perhaps in a future edition, include a variety of races, ethnicities, and backgrounds. One area to look to is Chromatography. It is much better than any other lab textbook I have read. The techniques presented have been around for years and will likely persist for years to come.
